Happy New Years GWI readers! With the holidays finally coming to an end normal life can resume, which means working on those resolutions, and spending time in Guild Wars2! If you are still looking to level your cooking discipline Qorthos over at ErrantQuest has put together a very good guide that, at this time, only costs 1.5 gold and about 2200 karma.
Qorthos was also kind enough to put together a full list of where to find the vendors and who sells what which can be found here. Happy cooking!
The Healthy Gamer has just released a 1-400 Cooking guide, and the video clocks in at a mere 6:20. Cooking is an excellent way of gaining additional bonuses such as: additional magic find, increased experience gain, and more! Check out the video for the full guide and get cooking! (side note: A few have mentioned that this leveling path may have been recently patched and no longer viable. We’ll leave it here for vendor location and recipe purposes. )
Smell something fantastical? Could it be Mama’s home cooked Rocky Mountain Oysters? Quite possibly… but upon further inspection, it’s something better! Guru poster Hatberg, along with Perturb and Frags have put some serious time into what they call the Chef Mindmap, a visual guide to cooking.
This mindblowing chart is a graphical guide to all of the complex recipes for the Cooking profession. Great for all you aspiring Tyrian chefs. To see the whole list simply click on the image to the right and enjoy! (Though small resolutions may want to be prepared as the original weighs in at a mean 1732 x 3795px…)
Of all the crafting disciplines, Cooking is perhaps the most unique and most difficult to level. There are a great many things that you will be able to make with cooking that will provide you with unique bonuses in the form of additional statistics, such as a percentage chance to block, additional damage against certain types of creatures, an increase in magic find (which determines the amount of rare and above items that you receive as drops) and more.
These additional benefits mean that Cooking is also one of the most difficult and expensive disciplines to level, as some items can only be found on certain karma merchants found throughout the world.
Though we don’t go into it here, the Cooking discipline can also make dyes. More on that can be found here, and it will prove to be a fantastic incentive to picking up this discipline on release.
Personally, I’m a big fan of cooking in most games as it’s a nice way of giving yourself and your group that little extra boost. ArenaNet has stated that in Guild Wars 2 the cooking discipline is going to be more time consuming and more costly than the other crafting disciplines. The fine folks at Guild Wars 2 Junkies have written up a list of tips that will help the would-be chef on their leveling journey.
1. A great place to start if you’re trying to get some recipes discovered is to think about realistic recipes, as was suggested in my previous article. Taking it a step further, remember that discovered recipes have a maximum of 4 ingredients, so breaking real recipes into 4 basic ingredients is important. We can assume that most real life recipes start with a base such as a meat or a starch, they then have some sort of sauce or water added, and then have a vegetable, and either seasonings or another vegetable added.
Hit up the article for the rest of the tips, and start brainstorming how to make that Skritt souffle or Skale tar-tar!
