L&K: A Discussion of Thieves via Reddit

Reddit.com/r/guildwars2 is a superb resource. Sure, sometimes you have to sift through some not-so-useful things,  but it really is a great stop for any Guild Wars 2 player (after Guild Wars Insider of course).  There hilarity, guides, discussion, and anything you could ever want to find…and more.

Well, right now, there is a Discussion of Thieves going on that I wanted to highlight. There been some pretty superb points made, and I’d like to encourage any Lock & Key Reader to head on over and take a gander. Join a discussion, leave a comment, or simply defend the Thief profession form the legions of haters! I personally would like to highlight a couple of the best comments in my opinion:

- From Timbob3799:  ”I have a guildie who despises thieves. Then I show up with my warrior in WvW with my warrior and yells for me to get my thief. Lol. For those that prefer a support role over dps/glass cannon, I suggest looking into the “Ninja Medic” build. I’ve ran a variation of this for a while now and it’s quite fun. Not to mention I’m damn near unkillable. I’ve surprised many a GC thief by not going down after they snuck up and back stabbed burst me.”

You don’t miss the Thief until we’re gone…

- From skylortrexler  : “Now is my time to shine!    http://cloud.steampowered.com/ugc/613881507662289675/AEE11DEE040891AB76C5FA163130655A7ADA8AD7/ Self crafted armor with T1 Medium Cultural Sylvari armor transmuted on it.   Running Short bow for multi-enemy encounters and p/p for single target devastation. Skills are Hide in Shadows for the stealth, Shadow Refuge for Team/Self heal and emergency stealth, Signet of Shadows for 25% speed increase, Seed turret for distraction, Thieves Guild for pvp damage increase or Take Root for pve mass distractions.”

First, your thief looks phenomenal. Second, this is almost exactly what my Thief runs with in terms of gear and skills.

So, head on over to the discussion and make your voice heard!

A Thieves’ Takeaway From Wintersday

Welcome back thieves. I hope your holiday was full of wondrous food and god times. But it’s time to get back to Tyria! Wintersday may be over, but it’s not as if it has entirely left us. Holiday events always leave a few permanent additions to the world of Guild Wars 2, so I figured me might want to have a bit of a look at them, and see what they might have to offer the Thief.

Weapon Skins

First and foremost, there were a ton of really excellent Weapon skins available over the Wintersday event. Since they were acquired not only from the Gift Exchange, but from drops, They’re dirt cheap on the auction house.

L&K – Shadow Return; Why Breaks are Good

Salutations and greetings, Thieves of Tyria!

It’s been a little while since we’ve talked larceny as the profession talk slowed down a bit while we prepared the new website (Seven, you’re a mad wizard of the Internet!). Secondly, my absence was due to a self-imposed hiatus from Guild Wars 2 and from my Thief. Now, as a GW2 fanatic, this was a little difficult to do, but to be honest, I was feeling the fatigue after putting almost 500 hours into this game.

Now were back, and I’ve never felt more ready to rob and mug my way through Lion’s Arch, Wintersday, and more!

Lock & Key:Why NOT to play your Thief

As time has gone on in Guild Wars 2, I’ve had more than few moments of retrospection on my profession choice. When I was in the middle of a hard jumping puzzle I’d wish that I could be a Mesmer, and when I was getting trounced in WvW, I’d wish I could be a Guardian. Normally, I’d use this feature to tell you why you SHOULD play the Thief. This week, lets try to learn from the bad…

Lock & Key: Permastealth Lives!

Yes, you read that correctly. The one mechanic that ArenaNet designed the Thief not to have, and the one mechanic that so many people on the official forums seem to whine about does actually exist. There’s proof too, it’s not as if we are chasing the shadow of Bigfoot through the Appalachian Mountains, our hope relying soley on a questionable footprint and some strange sounds.

No, this week thieves, I’ve got video.
