Some of you may have already hit level 80 by now (my main, Gaangnam the asuramancer, did so last week). Congratulations! Now you have the entire game laid out before you like a buffet. For those who are new to our profession, or have just started an alt, this is the second part of the necromancer leveling guide for you (the first part is here).
I’ll be pointing out some leveling milestones that you should be aware of , and highlighting some miscellaneous tips that could well apply to leveling any profession. I’ll also suggest a PvE leveling build for solo and dungeon play, with a detailed explanation of my trait choices.

I don’t know about you, but I love sPvP. I mean, I REALLY love it. The killing, the bloodshed, destroying your opponent or sometimes you getting destroyed, I love all of it! When the new map, Raid on the Capricorn, came out I hopped right into a nearly empty server and started playing around. I was elated to find it included underwater combat and then was soon attacked by sharks . . . and they promptly killed me. I then remembered I sucked at three-dimensional combat and then spent the next few hours honing my skills. The result: a brief Necro-centric guide for those of us who are three-dimensionally combat impaired.

It’s Gaangnam style!
First let me introduce you to my level 45 (at time of writing) main. Meet Gaangnam the asuramancer.
With this 1-40 leveling guide, I’ll point out some tips and checkpoints that you might have missed along the way, while you’re having a blast exploring the wonderfully detailed world of Tyria (aren’t you?). What I’m not going to do is to tell you to “do this quest” or “repeat this x times” because this is not a power-leveling guide.
This is an entirely PvE-centric guide, so I’m picking skills and traits for their versatility and ease of use in mainly soloing and some group play.
With that, let’s level up!

Can you feel that? Yes, that is the power of Death entering the realm of Tyria. Fear me mortals and quiver as my dark and ghastly presence washes over you! Wait, give me a moment, I have to unlock this weapon skill first. Oh, a few more kills aparently, a few more, ah forget it! Many of us are feeling the impact of having to level their Necromancer from scratch, or at all in my case. I’ve got a few quick tips for those trying to streamline their Necro’s level process.
I have a deep love of sPvP, it really has consumed all of my BWE time and stress test time. What could be better then having all of your weapon skills, utility skills, and traits unlocked right away? However, I feel its only reasonable to experience the world outside of the Mists and so I have ventured out into Tyria to level. This has left me a bit disorientated with this whole “unlocking” and “leveling” deal. I have forged ahead and I have a few quick tips for you my ghastly brothers and sisters. (more…)
Launch is just a few days away! If you’re still in a quandary over which profession to pick, BOTH of our Necromancer columnists, Vims and Sryii (with his comments in italics), will do their darndest to swing you over to their side.
Necromancers are a misunderstood lot.
Sryii: Apparently people are taken off guard by the whole “collecting dead parts to make hideous monsters” thing going on with necros.
Yeah, we’re dark and scary that way. But we are really your best friends. Need to stall your foes? Control a point? Soften up foes? Just add a Necromancer – or two – to your group. We are no shock troopers, but we’re masters of attrition warfare. We don’t do loud and flashy (see Elementalists for circus tricks) – we juggle debilitating conditions and blur the line between life and death with understated menace.
