I’ve been informed that we need to have a little more “Oceanic Love” here on GWI, so we figured we’d let those in Europe (and those in North American night owls) be the first to see the latest GuildWars 2 PvP scholar armor from ArenaNet. If images fail to load, please disable ad-blocking or follow links here and here.
I'm among those disliking this armor. It looks mighty unbalanced with a lot of skirts and gloves on some parts and then nothing on others(on long stretches of skin that's the unbalanced aspect) , preferably the most suggestive ones. I'm not against anything sexy, but this is closer to slutty with its garter stocking and open bra which undoubtedly attract the eyes. I won't enter the debate about it being war and what coverage they should have, scholars can't run arround in real heavy armor so the point is moot, sexy or ugly can be an entire different set of defense against foes, slutty...it's begging for another kind of trouble :p I really hope there will be other types of armor in between the extremes of this slutty one and a complete hermit. by the way, being a man or a woman doesn't give anyone the exclusivity in deciding about the moral of something, I'm glad some girls like it and I'm also glad some boys feel offended for us :)
Whats Your problem? If i go to the beach the Girls have much less clothes.. and The stile of the clothes is Great, I LOVE IT... its not important for me if you see skin or not... Theres nothing more natural then a human body. by the way, this looks like an elementarists... so i believe they know how to warm theirself (fire stance ;) ) even with wearing verly light agile and in my opinion beautiful, Clothes. I think they are great... ... and i ask myself... whats in the head of the ppl... never heard somebody say "oh dead space is too brutal" .... it often seems that gore is acceptet but a bit of Female skin (lesser than in a bikini) a lot of people are shocked! -.- its a mad world
I am happy as long as it's not full of spikes/blades => http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Assassin_Ancient_armor Hopefully the thieves won't inherit the spikes in addition to the skills. On the other hand a few spikes could be nice too => http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/File:%22Norn_Gal%22_concept_art.jpg As for the not enough coverage issue, the entire Norn race seems to be about being half naked. That makes sense for the Norn since you don't really want to risk having patches of fur being caught in armor. :)
im very disappointed...where the tattoos? D= i know they just showing the armor and all but its a norn...i wanna see tattoos lol
Wow the "too much skin replies" make me laugh. If your a woman I would like you to dress up in what you would think is appropriate attire and go to a martial arts lesson. Like someone said its to be flexible and nimble it makes plenty sense.
=/ to the guys saying now their gf wont play b.c of the armor, I think you should let your gfs decide. I'm a girl hell, I dress girly now but I'm still a tomboy and I like having the option to be sexy but deadly. What's the difference between that armor and another light armor that has you covered but still made out of thin fabric? If ever those fabric would just get in the way if it gets caught by your enemy's weapon. And all of the guild war fans know that you have other options too. covered up heavy/med armor don't need those huge shoulder pads and other eye candy decorations on them too but they're put their for design and badass purposes. Plus people who mentioned magic being what really strenghtens the light armors is also correct on their point. Plus I like being able to alternate sexy with bad ass so I can always mix and match the armors *covered WITH "revealing"* n change to however I feel
Um... this is Shining Blade armor, pictures of it have been on the forums for months. Also, I don't think that is a Norn, since Shining Blade armor should be one of the race specific sets.
I like the new armor. What I really want to see is male charr cloth armor, as I'd love to be a charr,m but most cloth armor I've seen on them is just fur or very primitive, hope for more screenies soon :)
Actually it makes sense, it's 33% coverage, 33% magic and 33% enemy distraction trough sex appeal. ;)
Having compared these new Anet 'innovations' with GW1 armours that were considered skimpy/revealing/slutty at their time, this one, despite revealing far less skin, hits straight for the most primitive and subconscious human instincts. I find it disheartening that a completely naked character has more natural beauty and dignity than in this fan service 'maid' fetish. Shouldn't the objective of a sexy armour (as opposed to modest one) be highlighting the natural features of a woman, her character and style? What for this vulgar sex fetish, I ask? Anet is known thanks to original Guild Wars for it's very own art style and aesthetics. Possible implication of Asian-inspired 'fan-servicey' kind of armour might be that Anet is no longer trend-setter in the character art department, instead following the established popular canvas and trying to appeal to the lowest common denominator in fear of not 'alienating' a 'wider audience'. This single female armour on it's own is rather insignificant, but it might give the community a wrong message, or indeed indicate a most fundamental change of philosophy for the game's art style.
On a further thought, yes, this armour is purposefully aggressive and vulgar. I'd even dare to say that it insults the viewer's intelligence and taste, replacing subtlety, grace and elegance with vulgar animism and barbaric, object-like depiction of women. I might be a man but I feel equally amused and insulted right now. GG Anet, 2:0 for you. That was some terrible, terrible damage.
It was designed by a woman, and while I respect people's opinion about it being too revealing, I see no reason to belittle her artistry or the tastes of those of us who can appreciate it. Where others see vulgarity, I see "oooh, pretty." A lot of love and care went into that design. I think some people are projecting their own issues a little too heavily on this game. I don't see a maid (that's pretty opulent attire for a maid.) I see a powerful sorceress. And an untouchable one at that. As a woman, I feel insulted by men who feel compelled to speak out in defense of us poor weak women as if we can't stick up for ourselves and our own aesthetic sensibilities. It's patronizing at best.
WTF? You mean to tell me that this outfit isn't designed by Vera Wang? That's it! The game suxors. I am going back to Panda fashion - at least their armor looks realistic. ;)
*-* Lovely! I'm amazed by the awesome work of Kristen Perry, I cannot wait to experiment with the dye system!
A bit disappointing. Don't get me wrong the design is cool but I am trying to persuade my gf to play this with me and having the women looking like fantasy prostitutes is not helping at all. Are they trying to make this game appeal to teenage boys only?
agreed, I don't think my girlfriend would want to play if she saw a bunch of girls running around in bikini armor.
I'm female and I love some of the more daring armors (not necessarily that armor, I'll be transmuting the low level corset dress for my mesmer) but can't wait to don the leather catsuit on my thief. That's part of the fun for me. Some of us like playing dress up. Games are about escapism. Especially fantasy. Anyway the designers (many of whom are female themselves and share my passion for flashy armor) have said time and again they will include modest options and more daring costumes to appease both sides rather than allowing anyone to step on anyone else's toes.
I personally love the armor design and I'm a female. I don't find it offensive and most certainly wouldn't skip over the game just cause some of the armor sets are unappealing or skimpy. I understand where people are coming from when they say that skimpy armor is overused. It is in a lot of games, no doubt about it and generally alternatives are not provided, which isn't the case with GW2. That doesn't mean they shouldn't have any of that type of armor. Does it make sense? No, but does it really have to? It's a video game. Also, Anet has already mentioned this in one of their blog posts. They understand that fans are diverse. Some prefer the crazy armor with the giant spiky shoulders and useless details. Some prefer armor that shows some skin and makes their character look sexy (and obviously, some find it offensive) and other people want simple armor that looks functional AND stylish. They can't just cater to one type of person. From the look of things so far, they've done a great job providing armor that can appeal to everyone, even girlfriends that get offended by one set of skimpy armor and refuse to play a game.
I don't like it, since now we've seen excellent medieval gears concepts which dettach GW2 aspect from every Asian like MMOs with lollyfantasy stuff. Actually, and I'm sorry to say that, she more looks like a slut than some kind of caster or warrior ready for war ... the worst is that it's actually a PvP gear. So I join aBabyPenguin on his arguments. A gear can be cool and light, but please not that way :/
Seven, will you be one of those who will have access to the beta testing in february? I'm just curious if there will be someone who can give us some nice reports from there:)
nice one, I'm voting for the blue babe :) thanks Seven for all those nice pictures (also in the previous post).
Sadly, it's the same armor piece in both pics, just dyed differently :P Kind of takes away from how I figure the Norn "should" be but as long as it appeals to some fans tastes then it's fine, there's other options out there for armor.
Figured it out. If anyone uses the browser apps AdBlock or AdBlock plus, they block those last pictures for some reason. Had to disable AdBlock to view those two pics. Works fine with all other pics on the site thou....
where do people get all these pics? I skower the web for every scrap of GW2 info that comes out and never find this sort of stuff.
Still can't see no pics.. just the captions... tried recaching, and using a different browser. no dice.
Woot! Night Owls ftw :P Idk what to think about the armor though. I never really liked when female armor shows a lot of skin, it doesn't make sense to me. This is a time of war! Not a swimsuit competition...
I agree! They've thrown out a load of rubbish stuff from the MMO genre with this game, I think it's time they threw this out too! I think these pictures are a bit over the top. I'd rather see armour that actually gives some protection, than a load of scantily clad women running around!
Well...there is sure to be other armor that covers up scholars' bodies much better, if you want less cleavage simply for the sake of your character. In Guild Wars 1 they had tattoo armor as well, and you were naked with underwear on in it, for the sake of it making sense, it STILL does make sense: embed with magic as Shoryu said makes complete sense. Again: not all scholar armor is cleavage galore.
I'd rather outfit my characters the way I want rather than have party poopers allowed to spoil my fun. They are including both options, as they should. Fantasy games should be less restrictive than reality, not more.
I'm a little disappointed with the set. I understand that GW has multiple set types available. You can see that clearly in GW1. I also understand the concept "to each his own." I just hope they haven't fallen into the same trap as all the other MMOs. End game armor doesn't need to be the most extreme armor! It doesn't have to look like you are carrying the skulls of anything and everything. It doesn't have to be the armor with things jutting out everywhere. It also doesn't need to be the one that shows the most skin. http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/File:Light_armor_01_concept_art.jpg That looks far better in my opinion. There is elegance in simplicity ANet. I really hope you guys can make some end game armor that isn't a convoluted mess.
Lucky for you and everyone else that feels like you , with trasmutation stones end game armor can look like any armor you choose.
That argument is invalid, since this is a fantasy magic world, where magic exist, therefore when creating an armour, it will be embed in magic (the more stronger the magic, the more stronger the defense) and be the more visual appealing, because its logic, when creating something you will use, to be the more divinity visual possible, in order to be remembered as epic as possible... real world you use kevlar. If you feel unconfortable watching a bunch of pixels, just because they have the shape and visuals of a humanoid skin, thats your problem ! Try a char maybe ! Hope that makes sense now !
I think people should be grateful the norn bother with clothes at all. They are norn; they don't need clothes. You just know they're all members of the polar bear club, too. ;)
