The Fanart Spotlight returns, and this week we have another great piece to share with you all. A phenomenal piece of work, founded on the idea of a Norn Ranger. The artist, Adam Isailovic, better known as 3BEPOB, was kind enough to give us an interview. So without further ado…
About the Art
How long did it take to make the piece?
I am not sure, it was somewhere between 12 and 14 hours for sure. Lots of times I just stare at the picture, trying to figure out what I am doing wrong.
Was there a specific inspiration behind the artwork?
Well, yeah. I love Norn, dragons and big cats. On top of that, my woman-to-be loves Rangers, so, it all kinda ends up in this piece, I guess.
What programs/mediums did you use for this piece?
I was using my lovely Wacom Intuos 4 and Photoshop CS5.
What originally got you started doing art?
Well, as a kid, I always painted over the walls in our house, making my mom very angry. But, I could not really paint until last year, since most of my life I worked two or three jobs, not enough time to actually draw or paint at all. Last year, I finally got my hands on my first Wacom tablet and started practicing like crazy every day. Art is my passion, and it is what I want to do for the rest of my life. I remember after watching the movie Alien for the first time in my life, I spent months trying to draw the alien. So I guess that was a main factor of my attachment to art.
What advice would you give to other/aspiring artists?
Hm, I am not good with advice, and I am not near a professional level, but I can say that practice is the key. But, do not practice for it’s sake. Practice so you do better than your last piece. Try your hardest each time, no matter what you draw. Also, fundamentals are things that can boost your skills in short time. I am a self- taught artist, and I learned the hard way about fundamentals, which are the core knowledge of any art, not just painting. Practice, practice, practice. And then, practice some more.
About the Artist
Were you a big fan of the original Guild Wars?
Yeah, I was and still am big fan of Guild Wars. I had the game for 67 months and spent over two thousand hours, mostly in PvP . Yeah, I know, that is not many hours spent in 5 and a half years, but I played as much as I could.
Which profession do you plan to have as your main character?
Most probably Thief. I was an Assassin in the original Guild Wars, so I guess thief would be the logical choice for me in Guild Wars 2. But, I must say, all of the professions look awesome and I will for sure buy a few character slots to have them all. I never play Elementalist or Ranger, but, in Guild Wars 2 they are all extremely fun to play.
Which of the races are you most excited to play as?
Well, wow, races. First Norn, that is for sure, and after it I will make Charr. As for a third, probably Human, or Sylvari. All the races are cool, and I am excited about Asura too. Who knows, maybe I will change my mind at the release, lol.
Which aspect of Guild Wars 2 is your favorite? (PvE, PvP, WvW, Dungeons, DEs, Crafting, Exploring, etc..)
Well first, I am in love with the lore. So familiar, and so different. Since I am a World Designer myself and have my own “lore” called Antharra (a project that I’ve been working on for over 12 years), I adore the details of the Guild Wars universe and love from developers that is infused in it. I wish, sincerely, in the future to work with dedicated people as the ANet developers are. Also, I love exploring, and PvP, both sPvP and WvW.
