WELCOME TO METRICA PROVINCE

Hopefully everyone is enjoying the beta weekend as much as we are here at Guild Wars Insider. If you are rolling a new asura character, you are going to be starting off in Metrica Province – and we want you to get as much out of the zone as you can. Below is a map highlighting the important areas and some of the best spots for dynamic events.

In total, you will find 16 hearts, 16 waypoints, 23 points of interest, 8 skill points and 9 vistas to capture. Can you get them all?

OUTPOSTS IN METRICA PROVINCE

OUTPOST A: Soren Draa
OFFERINGS: This will be the first area you enter after completing the tutorial section. Take a moment and breath in jungle air, you’re playing an asura! There are several services here that you may want to avail yourself of, such as:

  • Repair vendor
  • Black Lion Trading Company merchants (pick up your money/items from auctions)
  • Class trainers

OUTPOST B: Desider Atum
OFFERINGS: The next major “hub” that you will encounter in the zone has all your crafting needs. You’ll probably be around level 8 or so if you just naturally work your way through the zone. Pick your crafting skills and hit up the various tables and start making some upgrades. Don’t forget to grab the vista as well (you’ll need to jump over the edge of the top floor to reach it).

  • All crafting vendors and stations
  • Armor (Level 15 & 20) and Weapon (Level 10 & 15 gear) vendors
  • General merchants

OUTPOST C: Luminates Plant
OFFERINGS: This is the last hub type town in the zone and it only offers a few services. What it lacks in vendors though it makes up for with with a decent dynamic event chain which is discussed in point 5. The only other downside to this cube town is that the closest waypoint is a bit of run in any direction. It’s worth a stop if you are in the area to clear out your inventory and hit up the dynamic events.

  • Repair vendor
  • Armor and Weapon vendors (Level 15 & 20 gear)
  • General merchants

ATTRACTIONS IN METRICA PROVINCE

ATTRACTION 1: The Funhouse (6)
DETAILS: This is my favorite event chain in the game so far and is really a must see. The story is that a group of Krewe members have been kidnapped by the Inquest, and they are being held in the Funhouse lab. Your task is, of course, to go and rescue them.
THE STRATEGY: Once you beat down the door go inside and then take a left to go into the cells. Open the cell doors to free the Krewe members, which will then have a nice conversation before starting the next event. Follow the Krewe and trash the lab equipment; various Inquest members will show up to try and stop you, but it’s pretty easy with all the extra Krewe members. Once the equipment has been destroyed you’ll proceed further into the lab and confront an asura who will activate a group of golems (one is a veteran) that you must defeat. Follow the Krewe out of the lab, listen to the conversation, and then jump to safety in the lake below.

ATTRACTION 2: Hylek Chief and Enraged Shark (3-4)
DETAILS: There are a couple events in this area that are worth checking out, namely, fighting a hylek chief and battling an enraged shark!
THE STRATEGY: The first has you storm into a group of upset hylek in order to free one of the asura researchers, which leads to confronting the chief of the tribe. In the lake, there are Inquest members trying to poison the water; this is a good time to unlock your underwater weapon skills. Be on the look out for the Enraged Shark (it’s about 10 times as big as an asura, so you can’t miss it) and take it down! It can be done solo but will take a little bit of time.

ATTRACTION 3: Michoan Marsh (11)
DETAILS: In the middle of the zone is a group of hylek with a small village that is under attack from another hylek tribe. The other good area to visit is the Inquest lab just south of the village.
THE STRATEGY: There are various ways of helping the tribe but the most interesting, and quickest, is a dynamic event which requires you to defend the village from a group of thieving hylek. Focus on the thieves and the event will go pretty quick and you’ll complete the heart without issue.

If you really want a challenge though, head south a little bit to the Inquest lab. Work your way inside and upstairs to defeat a veteran golem, and then grab the arm that drops. Take the arm back downstairs to the control panel and use the arm to open the lock. Now head inside and there is a chest. Opening the chest with start a new dynamic event where you must defeat Indri (a champion level mob). I’d recommend at least three players, if not more as the narrow space in the cell makes it difficult to avoid some of his attacks.

ATTRACTION 4: Thaumanova Reactor (14)
DETAILS: Sticking with the whole “mad science” theme, this area was a reactor that has gone critical and is causing all kinds of problems. There are monsters from all over the world being pulled to this location, so there is a lot of variety in what you fight.
THE STRATEGY: The event you’ll want to watch for here is an escort quest in which you must protect the C.L.E.A.N. 5000 as it makes its way through the reactor, cleaning up the mess. If it makes it to the end, it will attempt to clean a very large cloud of radiatio,n and you must defend it from the Inquest and other teleported monsters until it finishes. Once all the radiation has been contained, the unthinkable happens and a new group event occurs. I would recommend having at least 5 people for this part as there is a lot going on and you will need the help. Deal with the adds that pop up and be sure to watch your feet – there is a lot of movement in this fight!

ATTRACTION 5: Lumantes Plant (13-15)
DETAILS: Luminates Plant is an asura lab where they are testing the potential for further cube cities like Rata Sum.
THE STRATEGY: The event chain begins at 5A, and what you want to look for here is an event in which the Inquest raid the lab and attempt to make off with all the golems. They will get some, but the goal is to defend the remaining three from from being stolen in order to complete the event. Once the event finishes, a few of the asura will head north to reclaim their stolen golems; however, the golems have been reprogrammed to be hostile. Your job is to “reboot” the golems, which will then return back to Luminates Plant.
PART B: The other event to watch for is in the 5b area, which involves a massive golem called the Mark IV. It is designed to be a walking bomb. The Inquest are attempting to disrupt the power grid for the zone and they will walk the Mark IV towards a group of the power grid towers, where it will explode. As the player, you will need to locate the Mark IV along it’s path towards the power grid and destroy it – but it is guarded. Overall, the battle is pretty simple, and you can focus on the golem in order to get the completion.
