As the release date draws closer, Guild Wars 2 keeps getting bigger and better, and we here at Guild Wars Insider hope to do the same. To do so, we’ve decided to expand upon our already amazing team of GW2 addicts. Since many of you have had the chance this past weekend to play test all those theories and builds you’ve had scribbled down on paper, we thought it might be a great time to expand into weekly, profession specific columns.

Think you know the best Mesmer PvP build for Kyhlo? Remember that list of Engineer skill ranges you keep next to your monitor just in case some emergency theory crafting is needed? Well, now might be the perfect time to whip up a few sample articles and apply to be one of our Profession Columnists!

The Profession Columnist duties will include writing a weekly profession-specific column around a topic decided upon by the columnist, the occasional feature article, as well as providing additional support to the news team with content posts when needed.

For those of you who can’t get enough news and info about GW2, perhaps a role as a News Reporter is more to your liking. GWI strives to be the first in Guild Wars 2 news, and believe it or not… there’s constant chatter behind the scenes about what we’ve found on the web. We need more hands on deck!

As a News Reporter, your duties would focus solely on posting news to the GWI front page, as well as scouring the web via proprietary black magic (we harvest our own) to find hidden gems of newsworthiness in the smallest of internet corners. Think of it like rolling a natural 20 on a perception check with thousands of people watching.

Yes, we’re also a little bit geeky.

Despite the preconceived notions of many, to join the team requires a little more than just fancy footwork and a degree in Quaggan logic.

Here’s just a few things we look for in those brave enough to apply:

  • Be a Guild Wars 2 fan. Seriously.
  • Have great writing and communication skills.
  • Be able to produce quality work at a somewhat fast pace.
  • Be a self-starter and consistent with your output.
  • Have a thick skin and the ability to ignore drama.
  • Be a team player.
  • Have a keen eye for finding news.
  • Must know several Quaggan jokes.
  • Multi-lingual would be a big plus.
  • Have a sense of humor. (Helps to ensure your own sanity.)

Now onto a few specifics…

To apply as a Profession Columnist you’ll need the following:

  1. Let us know which profession you’d like to write about.
  2. (2) Sample Articles around your selected profession
  3. (2) Sample news posts about Guild Wars 2

To apply as a News Reporter you’ll need the following:

  1. (3) Places you regularly visit to keep up on GW2 news
  2. (3) Sample news posts about Guild Wars 2

Life at GWI can be all work and all play right? So how about the benefits…

The good news is that you will be getting paid as much as the rest of the staff. The bad news is that we work for free. However, the perks are pretty nice. As we are heading into PAX Prime this year, we will have Press Passes for several team members that are able to attend. Also, we have quite a few projects in the works and being part of our staff gives you first dibs on participation in them. Oh, and because we are growing and always in flux, there is always room for advancement as over the next few weeks we’ll be adding several Editor and Management spots. We also have several programs in the works to reward contributors with gems, in game items, swag and more.

Overall, its a great chance to get in on a growing community and experience the other side of gaming. If you have read all of this and are interested – submit your writing samples to guildwarsinsider@gmail.com with the title Application – Profession Columnist or Application -  News Reporter to apply. We will attempt to respond to everyone if time permits.

Deadline for applying is Friday, May 11th.
