Nobody ever defended anything successfully, there is only attack and attack and attack some more.” – General George S. Patton

An odd way to start a column about the Guardian perhaps, but I believe it’s the perfect mantra of the profession. The Guardian is the definitive support class, but that in no way implies we have a secondary role. Wars are won by the force with the greatest support capability, and trying to win a battle without support is like trying to assault a keep without supply.

I am Centurion, and the Guardian was made for players like me. It is potent in both offense and defense, and effective at almost any range. It provides an impressive number of ways to support allies and confound foes via condition removals, heals, regeneration, blinds, shields, knock downs, knockbacks, area denial, speed boosts and teleports. To top it all off, Guardians make heavy use of the burning condition, one of the deadliest conditions in the game.

My goal in this column will be to explore each and every way Guardians can excel in Guild Wars 2. We’ll start by outlining the basics so we have a common ground to move forward from. We’ll look at each of the weapons and examples of how best to utilize them. We’ll break down each the Guardian’s utility skills, and the traits which enhance them. We’ll discuss examples of builds for PvP and PvE. We’ll detail every cross class combination so Guardians everywhere can make the most of any situation. We’ll discuss changes to the Guardian as the game evolves, and how they affect us. Together, we will influence others to play a Guardian so they can see for themselves what an incredible profession it is.

Above all else, I will remain in the faithful service of the Guardian community. I’ll rely on each of my shield brothers and sisters to bring me questions, comments, build suggestions, news, videos and anything else related to Guardian gameplay.

Until next time…

Remain vigilant.
