Hello and welcome, illusionists and headache inducers! My name is Big Sister, and I’m here to write about a class that has been increasingly drawing my attention since its announced return: the Mesmer.
Now, I’m going to be honest with you right from the get go. I know next to nothing about Mesmers. I know they’re spell casters, I know they enjoy using butterflies in combat, and I know they cause my health to drop faster than I can say “Imagined Burden.” I also know, from experience, they’re one of the most effective DPS PvP classes in the game and for that I have to (grudgingly) give them respect. In fact, I haven’t had a huge interest in Mesmers until I saw one running around with a greatsword, shooting a beam of screaming death at an enemy.
That jostled me from my busy critter-killing routine. “You can do what with a Mesmer, now?”
Immediately my spirit of discovery was triggered. I wanted to know anything and everything I could, and I want to continue learning as long as there is something to learn. How does a Mesmer function in offensive, defensive and support roles? What do their skills bring to every role as opposed to other classes? How do Mesmers utilize different weapons and what skill/weapon combo is the most effective in what situations? And, most importantly, do enemies bleed butterflies if I hit them with my sword?
If there’s anything to be learned about the Mesmer, I’m letting my eagerness to learn guide me into the mysteries of the Guild Wars 2 Entomologist-I mean, Mesmer. This is a challenge I’m welcoming willingly and eagerly. It’s not every day you’re excited to do something completely different than what you’re familiar with. Please excuse any anxiety attacks I may have from now on.
And so, dear readers, here we go. Onward into the arts of deception and illusion. Onward into clones and pink insects! I’ve traded my plate armor for a robe, mask, and grabbed a few butterflies on my way here. But don’t worry, I’ve poked holes in the top of the jar.
