As this video shows, botting is somewhat a concern in Guild Wars 2 as it stands. If you’ve been playing at all, you’ve likely seen more than a few characters spamming Map chat with offers for gold, and may have even seen a few letters in you mail box.
Sometimes, the bots in game can reach truly ridiculous levels, as DirtyFrostyman over at reddit documented recently. Head on over to his post to see some truly mind boggling pictures.
However, Reddit alos provides us with another side of this phenomenon. bot_mod has put up an impromptu A.M.A on reddit that is both incredibly informative and interesting. You can find the A.M.A. here. I’d really suggest everyone take a minute to read this, it changed the way I thought about this

The video confused me.
I see a line of people running - but that's it.
Why are they running - what advantage are they getting?
These are bots because they are running in a line - or by running in a line are they able to do something or trigger something that gives these bots a gain of some kind?
On the reddit bot-defender, I put up this comment to his reddit:
"Rant: I have some very close friends that live in China and work as gold sellers. It's their best option. They get a lot of shit in game, when they are trying to work. LEAVE THEM THE **** ALONE. Report them and MOVE THE **** ON. It's rude and disrespectful to give someone shit for where they work.
"I could say the same for the crack dealers and gang-bangers where I grew up. But I know better. A thug's a thug. The scale and importance is of course different... but still... someone who's job is to ruin something else - is still ruining something else. Just because its your job, doesn't get you off.
@Kichwas I don't know for sure, but I'd guess they are farming the skritt in that area, which do respawn quite quickly. There are two event in the area of WvW, both which give respectable karma. Of course, I could be missing something blatant,....
Would you like to elaborate on how it "Changed the way you thought about Botting"???
@johnf2022 Just gave it a bit more human face to me. To be honest, I knew nothing about it other than it existed, and it was interesting to learn about the structure of the process. I still don't like it, but now I understand it a little better.
@Wormwood @johnf2022 Fair enough, a friendly warning then my friend. DO not fall for the bleeding heart routine. I have once to often fallen for such theatrics. Sure what that person has said may have some truth in it, very little in my own opinion. His tale is one dipped in a poisonous knife of deception. You only have to consider some simple facts. What did these supposed starving families do before Video games and the whole online gold selling Market?? Also where did they get a computer good enough to play these games en mass??
If that can be explained then we shall move onto the next tid bit of info. If we were to leave gold selling, botting, etc as it is, what would come of the game?? what if the game becomes unbearable to play because it is flooded with bots and adverts. Then what would these people do for money?? There would be no game to Sell their illegal goods, so now not only are they hard done by, but so is the developer and it's employees who poured there heart and soul into making the game, those people would no longer have a job because of it.
In Guild Wars 2's case it could have a dramatic and disastrous affect on the gaming industry itself. Guild Wars 2 is an MMO that has attempted to break the mold of the stale and outdated MMO model companies have been trying to make money off for years. If it fails because of the player base fleeing due to excessive Spamming and botting, other companies may not see that as the reason of failure and instead blame it on the fact they chose to do things differently, then we are back to rehashes of crap games over and over till the MMO scene dies it's slow death. An illegal industry is an Illegal industry, Stealing is Stealing, and to cry poor because you can't feed your family, yet some how afford a fairly decent computer system, internet service, phone line and education enough to operate a computer and the finer points of using mods, hacks etc. something I am sure the people who pay the botter's don't come to their house and teach them. I Cry foul and BULL Kittens.
It is an Organised Crime syndicate as your fellow explained on his red edit post, and who knows how far they go?? like drugs it starts with a puff of a friends weed then something stronger, next thing you know you are a full blown drug addict doing the hardest stuff you can find. For all you know those posts where people on red edit are liking it to Human Trafficing and Child Slave labour, Crime syndicates who partake in those activities could also be associated with the botting and gold selling in games.
And before anyone tells me "you are crazy that it would go that far" Consider your own American History "Prohibition" the peddling of illegal alcohol. Before it was just a few small time backyard setups doing it, once bigger crime groups got wind of the money involved... The rest is history.
Anyway sorry for my poor english, I'm Australian :) it was a little longer than I expected it to be, oh well have a good weekend and don't drugs!
